KEY STORIES IN TECH
📜 Latest in tech
Apple to unveil iPhone 17, the ‘thinnest iPhone ever,’ in hardware event:
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series on September 9, with upgrades including larger displays, improved cameras, new colors, and a rumored ultra-thin iPhone Air (5.5 mm) potentially replacing the Plus model.
Other announcements may include Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3, with possible features like blood pressure monitoring, satellite connectivity, and larger displays, plus AirPods Pro 3 with a sleeker design and better noise cancellation.
Predicted prices: iPhone 17 at ~$800, Pro at ~$1,050, Pro Max at ~$1,250, iPhone Air at ~$950, watches from $250–$800, and AirPods Pro 3 expected to feature the new H3 chip.
Nvidia launches Cosmos AI models for robotics and physical AI:
Nvidia introduced Cosmos Reason, a 7B-parameter vision-language model enabling robots to “reason” with memory and physics understanding for tasks like planning, data curation, and video analytics.
Other releases include Cosmos Transfer-2 for fast synthetic data generation, neural reconstruction libraries for 3D simulation from sensor data, and updates to Omniverse and the CARLA simulator.
New robotics infrastructure includes the RTX Pro Blackwell Server and DGX Cloud platform, as Nvidia pushes AI GPU use beyond data centers into robotics.
GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke to step down, start new venture:
Thomas Dohmke will leave GitHub at the end of 2025 to launch a new startup, ending a tenure marked by major AI advancements through Copilot.
Under his leadership, GitHub expanded globally, achieved U.S. FedRAMP certification, and doubled AI projects on the platform.
Microsoft developer division head Julia Liuson will oversee GitHub operations during the transition, with other leadership shifts planned.
AOL is shutting down dial-up internet after 34 years:
America Online announced it will discontinue its dial-up internet service at the end of September, ending the iconic online access method for people after more than three decades of operation.
The company is also ending support for its AOL Dialer software and the AOL Shield browser, which were designed to work specifically with older operating systems and dial-internet connections.
This decision follows a massive shift to broadband, with recent data showing just two percent of people in the European Union used dial-up connections to get online back in 2018.
Wikipedia may have to impose identity verification on readers:
The UK's High Court of Justice has dismissed the Wikimedia Foundation's legal challenge against the Online Safety Act's regulations, which could classify Wikipedia as a high-risk Category 1 service.
Classifying Wikipedia as a Category 1 service could require user verification and swift content removal, which the foundation says would expose contributors to data breaches and authoritarian regimes.
Despite the ruling, the judge stated that regulator Ofcom has a responsibility to protect Wikipedia's operations, suggesting a more flexible interpretation of the rules may be necessary for the site.
Musk says xAI will sue Apple over alleged App Store bias:
Elon Musk claims Apple is unfairly favoring OpenAI’s ChatGPT in App Store rankings, making it “impossible” for other AI apps like xAI’s Grok to reach the top spot.
Musk alleges Apple excluded X and Grok from its “Must Have” section despite their high rankings, calling it an antitrust violation.
The dispute comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of Apple’s App Store practices, including EU fines and a US court ruling in favor of Epic Games.

☕Other news
Apple testing new Siri that can control apps entirely by voice:
Apple is trialing an upgraded Siri that can perform actions across apps using voice commands, such as editing and sending photos, posting on social media, or logging into services.
The feature relies on a new version of App Intents, allowing developers to make specific app functions accessible through Siri, search, and Shortcuts.
Testing is underway with apps like Uber, Amazon, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook, with a broader Siri overhaul expected in spring 2026.
Nvidia and AMD to sell AI chips to China with 15% US revenue cut:
Nvidia and AMD will pay the US government 15% of revenue from sales of high-end AI chips, like Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308, to China in exchange for export licenses.
The arrangement follows the Trump administration’s partial reversal of an earlier sales ban, tied to Nvidia’s $500B US data center investment pledge and trade talks over rare earth elements.
Critics argue the move undermines national security, with experts urging the administration to reconsider allowing sales of advanced AI chips to China.
